Chan Han Goh Returns October 21 For Ottawa Masterclass!
Chan Han Goh, prima ballerina, returns to Ottawa and ODCS studios for Master classes on Friday, October 21. Classes will take place in studio 350 , at our central site studios at Ecole Secondaire De laSalle. We are delighted to announce that Intermediate Intensive Student, Stella Thompson, age 13, has auditioned and been been accepted by the renowned Joffrey Ballet Company School's Intensive Summer Program in NYC.
Also, congratulations to ODCS grad Cleo who has just been accepted to a month-long Intensive program at MetFilm at Ealing Studios, in London, England!
And Congratulations to Advanced Intensive Study student Toby, who has just been accepted to the Summer Intensive of the National Ballet School of Canada where he will be assessed for their full time program.
We are so proud of our students who join 50 years of History of ODCS grads attaining their dreams in Dance, Theatre, and related fields!

ODCS Intermediate Foundation students perform in the Holiday Open House held mid-December at our Ottawa south site just before new restrictions were in place. All COVID 19 protocols were strictly followed.
Parents and students were delighted to once again be able to participate in a live demonstration of skills learned to date.
ODCS now returns to Online Classes temporarily commencing Jan. 8.
Classes will follow their regular schedule as closely as possible.
Thanks to everyone who helped ensure a safe and rewarding day!

Congratulations to ODCS Alumnus Malaika Kamau
Congratulations to ODCS alumnus Malaika Kamau, who has recently been awarded the associate teaching certificate from the Cecchetti Society of Canada.
Malaika completed her early training with the ODCS Greenboro site from 5 years of age achieving the Royal Academy of Dance certification from primary grades to Advanced One (with Distinction). She then was accepted at the Alberta Ballet School professional training program, achieving the Advanced 2 Cecchetti Certification.
Over her years in Ottawa, Malaika studied both Classical Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary Dance at ODCS as an intensive student, and further studies with École supérieure de ballet du Québec, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Boston Ballet summer programs.
Malaika has now accepted a professional teaching position in Vancouver. We are so proud of her accomplishments!

ODCS Student Wins Role Of Nutcracker Prince
We are delighted to announce that ODCS Intensive student Ben Craig-Brown has been selected to perform the role of "Nutcracker Prince" in Canada's Ballet Jorgen's "The Nutcracker - A Canadian Tradition".
This will be done as virtual performances from Dec. 13 to Dec. 24.
This continues a long tradition of ODCS students performing in this beloved Holiday classic, and Ben is ODCS' second "Nutcracker Prince".

ODCS Student Chooses Ballet Jörgen After Many Successful Audtions
After successfully auditioning at several major US and Canadian ballet schools with generous offers, ODCS dancer Ben Craig-Browne has chosen to attend the Ballet Jörgen Summer Ballet IV program this summer!

Prima Ballerina Chan Han Goh Returns For ODCS Masterclass!
ODCS was delighted to once again host the Ottawa Master Class tour with celebrated ballerina and dance educator Chan Han Goh! Both junior and senior students from ODCS and other area schools participated in these inspiring classes. Ballet - Primary grade RAD (ages 6-8): 2:15-3:15 PM
Registration is ongoing Saturdays at De LaSalle - 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM January 18 and 25.

Toby is performing the Prince in his Hometown – our first Nutcracker Princefrom Ottawa!!
In Toby’s words:
“I’ve had such an amazing experience with Ballet Jörgen over the past couple of months. Everyone in the company has been so nice and has made me feel at home. I feel that this experience has really helped me to grow as a performer. I’m really excited to be able to perform in my home town. It gives my friends and family the opportunity to see me dance and my progress. A few years ago I was fortunate to be a Frog with Ballet Jörgen’s The Nutcracker. Since then I’ve dreamt of playing The Nutcracker Prince and this shows that dreams can come true!!”
Toby hails from Ottawa Dance Centre Schools under the direction of Judith Davies, and will be performing the role of the Nutcracker Prince at the Shenkman Arts Centre on Dec 11 and 12 as well as at Meridian Centrepointe on December 14 for a total of five performances.
Bengt Jörgen Receives the Order of Canada
Our warmest Congratulations to Bengt Jörgen, Artistic Director of Canada's Ballet Jörgen on receiving the Order of Canada. The formal presentation of the medals/Investiture took place Thursday November 21, at Rideau Hall.

ODCS has a long history with Ballet Jörgen's many productions over the years, with our students participating annually as local performers and/or attending enriched summer programs in Toronto.
RAD Examinations Begin
Congratulations to Intermediate RAD student Miranda who undertook the RAD examination recently. This difficult examination is the first of the three main Vocational training levels of the international training syllabus of Royal Academy of Dance.
ODCS has a 48 year history of successful entries to all levels of this highly regarded training method for Ballet students worldwide.
ODCS Student Accepted to NBS!
We are delighted to announce that ODCS student Madeleine auditioned recently for the National Ballet School of Canada, and has been accepted into their Summer School audition program.
Students audition world-wide for placement at NBS and very few are accepted.

Congratulations to ODCS former Intensive Student, Meghan Sangster who has now graduated on June 8 from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School's Professional Division. We are very proud of Meghan's accomplishment; she now starts in August training in the RWB Aspirants Program, which focuses on transitioning the graduate student to professional dancer.

Congratulations to Olga, Michela and Marissa who recently passed, with Merit, the Intermediate vocational examination of the Royal Academy of Dance.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the ODCS students from pre-school to Advanced levels who performed in our year end production of "Invitation to the Dance-19" in the beautiful De LaSalle theatre on June 9.
From classical to contemporary dance, and featuring the Jr. School in the story ballet "The Ugly Duckling', the students were at the top of their form.

Anais, ODCS Intermediate Intensive Study student, recently travelled to NYC to see the New York City Ballet company at Lincoln Centre. Home to the late, great choreographer/artistic director Georges Balanchine, Anais was so privileged and excited to have this wonderful weekend and to see the performance.
Congratulations to ODCS alumnus Malaika Kamau who recently graduated from the Professional Division of the Alberta Ballet School. She has recently also been awarded their Assistant Teacher Training certificate and is now planning further studies in Dance Education/performance. We are all very proud of her accomplishments.
RAD Awards Tea 2019
Congratulations to all our successful Royal Academy of Dance examination candidates who received their certificates at the annual ODCS Awards Tea held on May 5th.

ODCS once again is delighted to have hosted the World Tour Master Classes with Prima Ballerina Chan Hon Goh. 24 ballet students participated in two levels of classes with the celebrated dancer/teacher.

Students and parents were also treated to a Q & A session with Ms. Goh. The tour provides valuable scholarships to the international Goh Ballet Summer School in Vancouver.
ODCS students have had the privilege of receiving scholarships to attend the renowned Summer school over the past 4 years.

ODCS Says Farewell & Thanks to Heather King-Andrews!
ODCS students gathered in studio Saturday, October 20 to say farewell and Good Luck to Heather King-Andrews and her partner Rob, who depart this week for Vancouver.
Heather started at twelve years old with ODCS and then as a late beginner in ballet, quickly went on to achieve her Intermediate and Grade 8 Award, and continued studies to the Advanced 1 level in Ballet, Advanced Jazz and Lyrical. She achieved at the same time a B.SC in Psychology and an MA in Education/Counseling.
Her love of Dance has taken her to numerous Teachers' Conferences and she has taught in the ODCS Junior School for the past 8 years. ODCS Faculty presented Heather with cards from students and gifts to show their appreciation - she is shown in the photo above with Artistic Director Judith Davies, Faculty members Master Ping Feng, Ms. Francisca Filleul and advanced dancers, Rosa, Emma and Sabrina.
We will miss you Heather!
More Nutcracker Successes!
Congratulations to ODCS Intermediate Foundation Intensive students, Laura (who will dance the role of a squirrel) and Allison (who will perform as a Dragonfly) in Ballet Jorgen's upcoming production of The Nutcracker at both Shenkman and Centrepointe Theatres!
Once again ODCS students continue this holiday tradition of performing over 30 years of children's roles in the many productions that have toured the nation's capital.

Congratulations to ODCS Intensive study students, Toby, Anais, and Emily, who auditioned for, and were awarded, roles in the Alberta Ballet's production of The Nutcracker at the NAC this December.
Many students from around the region auditioned but only a few were accepted. We are delighted that a long ODCS tradition of our students being chosen for roles in The Nutcracker continues on.

NEW THIS FALL AT ODCS!
Melody Movement with Melody Bear is an acclaimed pre-school dance program from the UK for children ages 2 to 4 years.
Our lovable teddy, Melody Bear, is the focal point of the program, in which young dancers share her activities, stories, ideas, and dreams through dance, music, and movement. Through their interactions with Melody Bear, students learn the foundations and fundamentals of dance, while also having a fun time in class!
